Usually, a Major League first base coach is studying a pitchers move to the plate and reading and relaying signs to the players on base. But the Colorado Rockies new first base coach, Rene Lachemann, has taken on another, more subtle, role in his first year with the club.
Lachemann offers advice to some of the younger fans in the crowd. Recently, 8-year-old Kacie of Brighton, Colorado got the chance to listen to him in between innings.
The former Florida Marlins and Colorado Springs Sky Sox manager talks to Kacie, who looks on in wonderment, soaking up every word that No. 38 says, emphasizing that she should eat her vegetables, not to play video games and most importantly don’t “ever go out with a baseball player.”
